You must carry some tools for engine/body/whatever repairs?! Your list of carried items only lists tools for tire changes. I just finished riding 2200 miles from Ontario to alberta. No problems on my KLR650 - but it would have been easier on your machine! Bon chance!

Only basic tool kit under seat.  I am using my ride around the USA as practice to see what I really need and dont, both as far as gear and tools.  I will be expanding my tool kit by the time I cross into Mexico!

Hey, great website ( I am sure it is not the first time you have heard that)!!! I am planning the same South America trip for Oct of 07. Unfortunately, we ( wife and I and two other friends)only have 10 weeks. Which brings me to me question. I am interested in how you were able to go for so long- the logistics. Did you quit your job? Sell your house? Did you win the lottery?? One day, my wife and I would love to do what you are doing. No rush. No schedule. It takes a lot of guts to sell everything, quit your job and go. One day though---one day! Check out my little blog (it is not as exciting as yours). I have the same bike as you. What do you think of the Sargent seat? Did you find it lower, or higher than the stock? Anyways, good luck and keep up the good work. I am looking forward to the South America stuff, and to see what you do for the Dariens Gap. Take care..Bri

That's yes, yes and unfortunately, no on the first three questions!  The logistics sound complicated but turn out to be relatively simple once you're underway, and to be honest, are probably directly related to the anal retentiveness level of the rider/ adventurer!!  If you can roll with it in general, you'll roll much easier on a trip like this.  That applies to bike, food, accomodations, problems, whatever.

Sargent seat is a huge improvement.  Have gone from squirming in the seat after 100 miles, to not even feeling 300 miles at once.  Standard seat feel about same height to me, and it has the same adjustability as the stock.  I have it in the stock high setting.  6'2", 32 inseam and it's comfortable for me.

Plan to fly from Panama City to Bogota and continue south from there.  Thanks for the good wishes and keep in touch!

I doubt you remember me too well but i'm Jose Antonio Correa's first cousin from Ecuador. You use to live in the appartment below my father's in Guapulo. Today, I walked into the BMW dealership in Miami to buy a 1200 GS adventure to do a trip from Alaska to Tierra del fuego. I'm talking to Armando the head of sales about the new 800GS and wich would be best. He then tells me how his buddy did the same trip on a 1200 and how he went down and then came back up and "stopped in ecuador because his family is there" I asked him who it was and he said Guido. I immediately said said "Guido Pothoven?". What a small world man. You seem to have done an amazing trip and I will be checking out your posts for ideas. Hope all is well with you as I have not seen you since we were basically children. Armando from BMW says hi and drop me an email some time. Small world man, small world.

No deberias encontrar mayores problemas.

Cuanto tiempo? Camping o hotel?  Solo o con otras motos?
